Smart homes are equipped with technology that provides residents with detailed information (online) about their home’s status and allows them to control all connected devices, even remotely, via smartphone or tablet. Some examples of smart home devices include smart light switches, smart refrigerators, smart electricity meters, smart blinds and awnings, smart HVAC (heating/cooling), smart plant watering and automatic pet feeders, smart alarms, and security camera management, etc. How does a smart home work?
The smart home system controls all electromechanical installations of a building. As a result, any control point can operate any function integrated into the system.
Through sensors, many of the repetitive actions we perform daily can be automated, firstly to facilitate our daily life and secondly to achieve significant energy savings. Remote control via mobile, internet, SMS, or phone completes home management. Smart homes can take certain initiatives and program building functions in a way that, combined with the building’s bioclimatic design, saves energy or improves the comfort of living. Smart homes are especially useful for people with disabilities and the elderly. In commercial buildings, hotels, institutions, conference centers, theaters, etc., installing a system solely for lighting control can save up to 75% of energy.
INSTABUS
The demands of our time led electrical installation professionals to create a company named EIBA (European Installation Buss Association), formed by the merger of companies, which today includes over 120 manufacturers of installation materials, electrical equipment industries, heating, air conditioning and ventilation materials, household appliances, and security systems industries. EIBA’s goal is to develop and promote the Instabus, an intelligent building installation system, in the European and global market (European Installation Buss).
The Instabus technique requires, in addition to the power cable, the installation of a control cable (twisted-pair telephone cable), connecting all devices and parts of the electrical installation so that they “communicate” according to a specific program, which is done with a simple, compatible computer. This creates a separate network for the circulation and transfer of installation information. Instabus EIB meets all the needs of any building and can be applied equally easily in single-family homes, hotels, schools, and large office complexes.
