A wind turbine is a machine consisting of a vertical tower and a turbine on top that converts wind (kinetic energy) into electricity. Small wind turbines are used for applications like battery charging, while larger ones provide electricity to homes. Many such turbines form wind farms, which are renewable energy sources. Many countries have built wind farms to reduce pollutant emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
Η αιολική ενέργεια αποτελεί σήμερα μια ελκυστική λύση στο πρόβλημα της ηλεκτροπαραγωγής = Wind energy is today an attractive solution to the electricity generation problem
Efforts to develop wind energy have been made nationwide, supported by EU renewable energy policies encouraging and subsidizing investments in mild energy forms. National development laws, along with Law 3468/06 on renewable energy sources, provide strong incentives even for small-scale investments. Law 3851/2010 specifically mentions small wind turbines. For turbines up to 50kW, a special subsidized electricity sale price and a simplified licensing process are provided. Small wind turbines are simplified small-scale systems. A 50kW turbine can produce up to 250 MWh annually, enough to cover the energy consumption of over 60 households, while saving 275 tons of CO2 that conventional energy production would emit.
